Dear Admin
This note is to inform your members that, Michael (Tommo2) Thompson, has been suffering a heart condition these past 10 months. Since his operation, in February this year, he has since been diagnosed with bowel and lymphoma cancer. At this stage he is doing OK and handling the effects of chemo rather well.
Although he has lost most of his hair, a per photograph, he is still a very proud person.
I believe you both met in Adelaide at the reunion this year.
Regards
Sue Thompson

Thank you Sue for letting us know about our dear family member. I've moved your post to here so that it doesn't 'self-prune' in a short time.

As I'm sure you know, he let me know about this "mother" sometime ago and he knows he's in my prayers and thoughts.

Michael, good to see your spirit is still as immense as it ever was.

Now, beat that mother OK?

Your brother - Stuey

Many thanks Sue, the boss and myself did indeed meet Michael and your good self in Adelaide. Thanks for the update and please give Michael our best wishes for a full recovery... We hope to see him next year at the reunion, I owe him a beer.

Sue,

Sorry to hear the news about Michael.

I know he will do his best in fighting the big C.

We served together in Chatham Band in the '70s and shared a house in Strood, Kent and had many good times.

The next time you see him, please pass on to him, and I'm sure I speak for ALL his old friends back here or wherever they are, our best wishes for a speedy recovery. (We miss his trivia on the forum.)

Please keep us updated with his progress as he is still a part of 'OUR FAMILY'.

Bob Richardson.

I yesterday received this e mail from Michael to let us know how he's getting on.

I'm extremely pleased to say that it's good news - WOOHOO

Hi All,

Just to let you know that I visited the oncologist today, post my third chemo session and a recent CT Scan, and the news is great.

At least one third of the cancer in my abdomen has subsided. I have three more sessions to go starting this Thursday.

Although it will always be with me, the positive side is that it looks as if we are going to achieve the state of manageability.

A lot of this couldn't of happened if it wasn't for the support I have had from you all.

I'm not going to become complacent about it though, as it is not all over yet, but at least I'm on the right track.

Love to you all.

Michael

All the best brother, everything's still crossed for you. I'm over the moon.

Sorry to be so late in joining this, but having read the news about Tommo I'm pleased that he's on the mend and i hope that continues.  In Chats in the mid 70's we lived in the same house in Rochester along with other dog ends who live in the road (in house really, not just the road).

Wonderful house with multi coloured mould and fungus on every wall.  We also lived with women who became our ex wives, so that was alright. I remember on winter night when we all went out into the street at 2 in the morning to have a snowball fight. Doesn't seem much I know, but was funny at the time.  We were posh you see, we had snow, the Strood pigs couldn't afford snow.

We could've if we'd all clubbed together.

Us Strood lot were poor, and Mr MOD (RN) Scrooge was tight with his money.....

Just an update for those who I re missed in contacting. The cancer has shrunk from 300mm (1ft) to 12mm (1/2 inch) It has been hard work but I knew it could be brought under control. On Tuesday 16th Dec my heart was re operated on and hopefully there is better success than what happened in Feb. Looking forward to a better 2009.
In saying that, I wish all members and readers of this forum a very special Christmas and a safe and wonderful new year.
By the way Dee, I seem to remember a Guy Fawkes night at Dave Bromley's. Someone lit the fire too early and we were running out of flame at a rapid rate. Off we went down the ally ways looking over fences and nicking  all sorts from the locals, (tables chairs etc) to keep the fire going. Of course how disappointed I was to see my beautiful pussers chairs sitting on top of the fire on my return.
We also toasted with a concoction that was made by and mixed by Ginge and Butch in Daves fishing wellie. Vodka, whiskey, gin, and many other spirits and beers that were loafing around. Topped off, of course, with brown bread and raw eggs. I seem to recall that you set fire to the string you wore for a belt.
You might remember the night at your flat when we tried your home made beer. It looked good but unfortunately is was crap as the bottles had mold in the bottom. Maybe that was from the old flats. LOL....
We ended up drinking a bottle of Sambuca with the coffee bean in it. God did I get ill when we left and got some fresh air into the lungs. Just as well we only lived around the corner, albeit I only just made it home.
Happy memories of time gone by.....
