Does anyone remember a Fleet band gig at Leeds Castle when after many glasses of champers some members of the band had to relieve themselves over the parapet in full view of HRH Princess Margaret and Red Rum. Didn't we get locked up in the Dog Collar Museum?
There were other incidents on that gig as well but I'm sure others can add their recollections. _________________ Mac Magill |

Must have been before I joined in 82 and I never heard of the incident until now! Perhaps it was a case of the lads trying to forget it? Sounds bloody funny though... spin the dit my friend!! _________________ http://www.royalmarinesbands.co.uk

I can remember a gig at Leeds Castle it was for a fashion show, it was just before the band Port Starboard or thrawtships left for a trip to Aussie and NZ, I can't recall and incident of this nature but I do remember that myself and a couple of burgalars one from Eastbourne and one from Manchester almost getting caught glimping at the models. Happy days of yore. _________________ Mr bass trombone |

Yes Mac,
I am sure that was the same day Dave Cole, Dusty (Jock) Miller and I think it was either Dave Hutch or Gaz Davies found a punt like craft tied up on the moat. Well after a few glasses of wine and a few beers it was like a red rag to a bull.
I was detailed off to watch the ooch and some bits and bobs and off they went . Well no sooner had they taken off and sailed off into the middle of the moat PC plod turned up leaving me to explain what was happening and to convince them Princess Margaret was in no danger from the loonies messing about in the boat.
There was another incident where Roy Fleming found the caterers stash of Port and proceeded to “borrow” some and secrete it behind his chair in the changing room. Enter a few plods who unluckily for Roy ended up spending a bit of time laughing and joking with us until the said caterer arrived red faced wanting to know which one of us had made off with his port. After much name calling, gnashing of teeth and even more red faces the “hot” port was returned.
I think this particular gig falls in the “Spectacular” category just like Hever Castle (T F's Last Stand) and the Olau Line gig in Sherness |

Or the amount of champers on Hms RNR ship in belfast.

| Yes I can remember those two places, Belfast was great, if I remember we played Brasilia quite a few times, also I had the pleasure of travelling in the Iron Pig, being looked after by those big Marines. |

You're mixing your gigs up Keith!!!
I was there for both however and the second one was somewhere in Norfolk I believe. It was a Cat iv in the house of some TV chef, but the rest of it was quite correct.
We had been told to help ourselves to wine - but they neglected to tell us that invite didn't extend to 'box-sets' and at least 3 of us had picked up a crate of port and stowed it under our backsides.
They weren't happy about it and as you say PC Plod, who were joining in with our fun, suddenly turned very business-like when they knew they had a theft to deal with...
Must be the quickest 'detected' crime they ever had to investigate... _________________ ITMA! |
