The Royal Marines Band Service On-line Community

Over the last year I have posted 46 threads on the topic ‘In Memory’.

These articles covered members of the Royal Marines Band Service who had died while on active service during World War I, World War II and also included those who died as a result of the Deal bombing.

In total, 376 lives were lost during all these tragic actions:

Band Boys: 4
Musicians: 372
Band Corporals: 33
Bandmasters: 33

Many died serving at action stations in ships Fire Control rooms or in the depths of the ships among the ‘big guns’ magazines. Others died whilst in captivity as P.O.W.s, or as a result of air raids, or in a land action and most recently, a terrorist bombing.

My aim was to pay tribute to them by publishing a brief explanation of the circumstances of the deaths of these ‘Bandies’ and in addition, to educate readers.

These articles could then be read by forum members, guests and visitors to this forum, showing the sacrifice made by members of the RMBS, in the service of our country.

Families lost sons, fathers, brothers, uncles and cousins, and the RMBS lost members of ‘The Family’ to which ALL members, past, present and future, of Her Majesty’s Royal Marines Band Service, belong.

I hope their loved ones, familes, siblings, descendants, may one day look up their ‘lost’ relative, navigate to this forum, and see that these brave men have been remembered here, on OUR site.

And..... I hope that in years to come, no more names need adding to this list.

At the going down of the sun, and in the morning, we WILL remember them……………..
