Just wonder if there is any limit, or is it a case of choose  say 2 for example or do you tell the board what ones you play and they ask you to play the ones they are interested in?

I ask this because i play, Guitar, Side Drum, dabble in tuned percussion, and about to start learning trumpet and pick up the bugle again.

I also have grade 4 theory if that helps at all.

You can tell the careers office what you play and will be put forward on whatever instruments are required. I suggest you read the 'Thinking of joining' link at the top of this page.

And the way you think alphabetically defies belief!!!

Cheers, I did give it a gander.

Though I have heard of a couple of instances where people have auditioned hoping to be a guitarist/bassist and got given cello/euph.

Can this happen?

Forgive me but I do get easily confused

Yes of course it can happen... you audition on all sorts of instruments and may be offered any from the list below (although the list is NOT exhaustive). If you show musical aptitude, you may be offered instruments you are not familiar with but FULL training is given.

OFFICIAL instrument category:
Oboe / Cor Anglais (Bass Drum Cymbals on parade)
Solo Clarinet
Clarinet / Violin
Clarinet / Viola
Bassoon (Bass Drum Cymbals on parade)
French Horn
Solo Cornet
Cornet / Piano
Cornet / Violin
Trombone
Clarinet / Piano
Euphonium / Violoncello
Basses (Tuna, String Bass and Bass Guitar)
Flute /Bb Saxophone
Saxophone / Violin
Percussion
Bugle / Drum

I WANTED to be be a bugler but on my audition I tried Euphonium, Violin and also Bugle and Drum.

That's pretty amazing.

Did you play either Euph or violin before hand?

Thanks , that has given me much more confidence. :)

I wanted to play the SLR but I  was not old enough.
By the time I was, I had already been seduced by the Dark side of the RMBS.

I'm going to make the assumption the dark side is more fun :)

That seems like a very unique auditioning process.

But obviously is works.
