Thanks to FFoglamp for hooking me up to this forum.
Good to see/read so many old friends.

Me...I'm still married to Pat, living in Florida, teaching school, drinking Guinness and dodging hurricanes.
Still making less than a living playing the French Horn (only Cat IVs !!)

Regards to all....

Max

Any stories that end up on the "Dit" from Aaron Ardvark concerning a vacum cleaner are greatly under exaggerated.

Hi Max
Hope all is well out in the states and that life is treating you well, even if the weather is a little unpredictable!!! This site is bringing back many happy memories of Fleet Band life - did we ever discover who the Phantom Otter Layer of B Block was??

I know who it was.................but I'm not telling !!!!! The said Phantom Otter Layer might know that I know, and it would be a fate worse than death to tell.

Hi Max

Good to hear you are ok.

You still drawing part time?

I still have a pic somewhere you drew for me in Gib when a kind Bootneck who had consumed 'severial pints of gwinss' decided it was to far to go to the heads and hung his ar$e over the balcony decorating the one below ie MINE.
I thought we had identified the OTTER LAYER that night but he assured me he had never been to Northolt.

Admin:I have tried three times to write about a famous Chatham gig at a Castle in the Garden of England and each time it has been knocked back.

Is there a filter on this site which detects the word H*ver ????????

Not that I know of Andy, try writing it in word first, copy it, log into the site and paste it in.
I can write Hover no problem but I think it is a stupid name for a castle

Hey Max! Long time no hear from ya!

I'm moving house v soon and guess what I found lurking? A Maxtoon....

You drew a piccie of me and you letting rip on our hooters with the beast of fleet band complete with hump groaning about "the bells!" Happy days.

Oh boy - Hever Castle!!! WOTAGIG (or so I'm told)

I vaguely remember Trev Waters doing the dying swan under the wheels of a v large tractor. I'd go on, but I don't want to tread on your toes Andy! Tell it as it was and don't forget to tell them that the only sober bandy was the Nation's favourite DoM. Oor Terry. (oh, and don't forget to tell them how much we had to spend on the booze!)

Woohoo!

Hi, Hornblower (Stu)

Good to hear from you
I lost your current email address in one of your changes.
In fact, I was telling my daughter about you as she & I were playing Otto Nicolai duets together. I told her how you wouldn't let me "flannel" through any of the fast parts back when I first joined Fleet band in Chatham !!
Cheers mate....

Keep in touch

Max

Aaaah, the ubiquitous Nicolai duets! Good fun.

I'm still playing them, but now with a Cor Anglist (Someone who plays a Cor Anglais and who is veeeery pretty and a lot younger than me - no Max not your daughter but probably young enough to be!!!!)

She is also not allowed to flannel, but also, I give her a hard time (!) for not sticking rigidly (!!) to the tempo. So you see you're not the only one to get the rough edge of my tongue.... (Hmmmmm)

I bet you've got the edge now though eh?

I'm playing quite well, definitely better than when in Fleet band etc. probably because I practice now. I'm the boss of 15 coppers and they find it funny that at lunch time I 'get my horn out' and stick in my silent brass for a blow!!!!!

Anyway, gotta go - pm me with your e mail addy.

L8er m8.

Stuey
