Welcome Kev. I wore a badge because I could remember my name, unlike Les who was normally so p1$$ed he had to have a name in case he forgot it.

Hi Kev - welcome aboard!
It was strange in our end of the block at Deal, M wing, to see you lot coming and going at the other, C wing,
To me the two ends were a bit like England & France - you don't like the thought of liking them, but as soon as you get to know one personally you find they're not such a bad bunch after all!!
We didn't mix much - apart from the raids up & down stairs with loaded pillow cases - but I never had any real grudges at all. As has already been said, we're all under the same cap badge when all's said and done and I have always been extremely proud of the 'fighting' branch of my Corps. After all, my Dad was a combatant under the Globe & Buster during WW2.
Post plenty mucker! _________________ I made that classic mistake last night that all guys make. I got really drunk, and I ended up having sex with my best friend.
Now, I can't even bring myself to talk to him.
To be honest, I don't even want to play fetch with him
ITMA!

Hi Hornblower,
Yes .. I remember those raids & clattering up & down the stairs in Parade Boots .. much to the chagrin of old Bert Fuggle (the civvie block sweeps) ...
As you say were weren't really all that different ... we wore our teenage zits with a poorly executed war-like expression ... whilst you lads always seemed that much "smoother" & more laid back ...
Though I must confess to entertaining homicidal thoughts towards certain J/Bugs .. usually around 0600 daily ... (only kidding fellers) ...
Cheers,
Kev. _________________ "Soldier an' Sailor too" |

You didn't need to if I was duty bugler mate... you'd have done me a favour as I was usually committing musical (I use the word musical VERY loosely) suicide by blowing the thing _________________ http://www.royalmarinesbands.co.uk

Hi Kev.. Welcome aboard mate...You were my era as well, in fact I ended up marrying one of your lads' sisters. He joined with me in September '67, and his name was Jim Boyle...
Old Bert Fuggle had many different problems with us at that time..(especially the 'other' guys who used to buy the naughty magazines).. _________________ 'Never moon a werewolf'. |

Nice one Rab ...
Old Bert was the bain of my life on Saturday morning fatigues .. but in later years,I found myself feeling sorry for what we must have put him through ..
Ahh,the callowness of youth ...
Naughty magazines ? .. can't imagine what you mean ... and it certainly wasn't any of us chaps on the upper floors .. Capt Hurricane & "Maggott" Malone was more our bag ...
Cheers,
Kev. _________________ "Soldier an' Sailor too" |
