'Guest' (unregistered users) are now prohibited from posting in all forums. All forums (apart from troop areas) are viewable by anyone who chooses to look at them.
Here is a suggestion:
We could lock down the forums so that only registered users can see the Coffee Boat, Dit Book, The Buglers grot and Picture Gallery and thereby 'force' lurkers to register to view. Would not being able to see what is posted put people off or make them want to join to see what is being said?

Your views and suggestions are most welcome...

I think those who are not registered (guest )should not be allowed to take part in the forum activities other than look and read.I think it is the only way to keep spam to an absolute minimum

I think there are a lot of lurkers out there having a good old time reading all the work and input from active members. Make them join for the privilege of reading it. It's like window shopping. Someone does the hard work to make the display good to look at, while passers by reap the benefit for no effort. Curiosity will make a lot join who wouldnt have bothered before.

Make the buggers join

To me...reading is window shopping. I can then make my mind up to purchase the commodety. So I would make it "free to read" but register to post.

In my case...I would like to be able to check out a board before I become a member of it. There are several others that I have looked at because I had some interest in the material but then declined to join.

Fair point but there will be other rooms on the site they can look at but if they want the juicy ones then they will have to join.

I think the 'window shopping' idea is best - it gives a chance for those that that show an interest in the RMBS to have a 'looksee' but can't get involved with postings etc; unless they register - you have to bare in mind that there are some former ex's that are still interested and have a 'butchers' at our site but, don't want to get involved because of various reasons ie: spiteful $hite being thrown at them from when they were in or after they left, again, for various reasons true or false - an age old saying 'if you can't take a joke you shouldn't have joined' springs to mind, but then the choice is then theirs to make - that's my opinion for what it's worth.
