Back in the Eighties at FOP band HMS Raleigh Cpl Bglr 'Harry' Roberts said to the rest of us bulgers " I'm bored, i'll ring over to the R.M drill instructor to see if we can do some arms drill. So along we went to the armoury, signed out some S.L.R's and fell in on the parade ground. After carrying out a few 'change arms', 'trail arms and other 'nifty' drill movements on the march (much to the pleasure of the drill instructor), the DOM at the time Lt. Mick Goss just happened to be walking past. The look on his face as he observed his Corps of Drums marching across the parade ground carrying out slick arms drill was a site to behold. It was if he had a bungy strap attached to his back at full stretch and it was beginning to pull him back to it's original destination.
I don't recall what DOM said to Harry, but I bet it was a clasic bollocking.
If memory serves the Corps of Drums 'drill display team' was Bomber Mills, Al Blackshaw, Tug Wilson, Harry Roberts, me and Dick Darch. Anyone involved remember the incident ? as the ol' memory banks are fairly low.

I knew there was a reason why we used to do drill, last 2 periods on a Friday, during training.
I bet the Buglers were also very happy with Harry. The time era, sounds like late 70's, early 80's _________________ Once a Bugler, always a Turtle !! |

We did musket drill for Graham Hoskin's Top Table in the mess... we borrowed 2 muskets and put bang caps in them but the line was drawn at party poppers in the end. At the end of the display we, myself and Gaz cRETCH, did a volley, well a bang as there were only 2 of us doing it. It went down well and became a party piece for us for a while at RMR dinners etc. We made a lot of the drill up as only buglers can but some was correct. Have you ever tried finding a drill manual from 1805? No cuff too tough! _________________ http://www.royalmarinesbands.co.uk
