Hi
I previously applied for the band last year, but was made temporarily medically unfit until Feb 10. I have recently heard that it may be able to be moved forward. But i have a slight problem that i didn't continue a lot with my fitness when i found this out, but i continued biking for about 1.5 hours most days. But my running stopped.
If it does get moved forward would it be possible to get as fit as i need to be by this Nov 09? if i was to run 1.5 miles daily and build that up to more over the next few months?

What sort of time is your 1.5 mile at the moment?
If you want it bad enough you'll get there, try looking up Fartlekk on google, thats good training.
November is quite a long time away, you should have plenty of time to get your run time down _________________ Cheers

Give a man a fish and he will eat for a day. Teach a man to fish and he will sit in a boat all day drinking beer. |

Thanks for that, will look things up and that. I actually just went out this morning for 1.5 mile run at 5:30am and it's between 13-14. But i am sure doing that daily it will improve.
Thanks

i would say that if you are running 13 - 14 minutes at the moment all you need to do is keep at it and you'll find the time comes down quite considerably, incidentally remember that you should start to build up your distance (slowly) over time, just because you are being asked to run a 1.5 mile doesn't mean that you should train just for that - after all the PTI may just decide to give you all a 1.5 mile warm up lap!!!!! (stranger things have happened) _________________ Cheers

ok thanks very much for that, i will continue doing this and build it up. I will add to it over time and who knows i may try and do 2 mile in 15 minutes to make sure it's ok and just work on that.
thanks for the advice!

don't build up too quickly, a good way to do it is to add 10% every few weeks to month, by November you should be smashing 5 milers with ease, and in turn will get through the 1.5 mile with ease (although it is a 'best effort' test so you should feel that you cannot do any more by the time you get to the end of it!!) _________________ Cheers

The easiest way is to wait until you are 35 and do it then. You get so much more time to do it in? _________________ Wine is meant to be drunk............I am drunk.............Therefore am I wine??

Nice advice!
I am already well into it now, and i can't believe i am saying this but for the first time in like 6 years i don't mind getting up at 5.30am and going for a run. (Blimey i did just say that!) I've only been going for 5 days straight at the minute but i am already learning and i can feel it getting easier now i have started the routine. 10ths of seconds are already falling so if i keep going i am sure i will get there. I want this more than anything and i am not stopping until i succeed. Ok i have learnt the importance of not warming up and cooling down properley by ripping a few muscles but i guess we all make mistakes!
Thanks

Also, make sure that you take rest days!!! (they are just as important as the days you spend putting the miles in) _________________ Cheers
